Andermatt can be described as the crown jewel on top of the Gotthard mountain range. It is the great water divide for central Europe, giving source to rivers like the Rhine, the Inn, the Rhône and the Ticino. Activities
Andermatt offers an ecologically developed 18-hole golf course covering 1.3 million square metres which meets international tournament standards, Central Switzerland’s largest skiing destination with 180 km of ski slopes, and the new Andermatt Concert Hall, which was inaugurated with a brilliant concert by the Berliner Philharmoniker. Other attractions include horse riding, fishing, tennis and hang gliding.
Summer
In the summer Andermatt’s flowering meadows provide idyllic walking routes. The region is the perfect location for hiking, climbing and mountain biking surrounded by a breathtaking mountain scenery.
Winter
The region is guaranteed snow and is popular for all types of winter sports. Ambitious skiers will find their dream area on the Gemsstock at almost 3,000 metres above sea level, while the sunny slopes of the Nätschen are attractive for families and pleasure skiers. The Andermatt ski facilities are ultra-modern and linked with the neighbouring ski area of Sedrun to form the largest ski arena in Central Switzerland.
Relaxation starts on the journey to Andermatt
Andermatt’s central location means it has excellent connections to the major national and international transport routes. The airports of Zurich, Basel and Milan provide easy access to scheduled flight services and there is also an airfield for private aircraft in Buochs, only 45 minutes from Andermatt. By road the village can be reached from Stuttgart or Munich in four hours, from Milan in two hours, and from Zurich in just 90 minutes.
Andermatt Swiss Alps
In February 2005 Samih Sawiris was invited to Andermatt by government officials of the canton of Uri to develop a tourism development concept for the region. He found the tourism potential so compelling that he decided to propose his own project. The necessary changes to the land-use plan were approved by popular vote on 30 March 2007, with 96 percent in favour. Andermatt Swiss Alps AG developed Andermatt into an intriguing holiday village with ultra-modern facilities while preserving the original village centre.
